California lets Allstate hike rates — but insurer still won’t write new home policies

Allstate has received California’s blessing to raise homeowner insurance premiums 4%, but the state’s fifth largest home insurer said it has no plans to reverse its decision last fall to stop writing new policies.That will mean higher bills for Allstate’s existing customers, and no relief for other homeowners in the state who are losing their coverage in areas ravaged by recent destructive wildfires, floods and landslides. For homeowners desperately seeking new policies, the news isn’t goo: State Farm, California’s largest home insurer, said in late May it also would stop writing new policies, igniting fears of an insurance market collapse.Allstate said it had applied for the rate increase in April 2021 because prices were too low. $30 million soccer fields, now double in price, to be built in phases

A proposed $30 million field sports complex moved forward with the Brentwood City Council on Tuesday approving the conceptual plan to begin designing the first phase, which includes tournament-level, artificial turf soccer fields.Early cost estimates to build the 30-acre Sand Creek Sports Complex were $15 million, but by April of this year those estimates had ballooned to more than $30 million after the city met with the design firm, Verde Design. The Bay Area’s top football prospect in the class of 2024 is set to stay close to home for his college career. Four-star outside linebacker Naki Tuakoi, a 6-4 and 222-pound edge rusher from Fremont-Oakland who is the region’s highest-ranked recruit according to 247Sports, has committed to Stanford. Tuakoi, who was named all-Oakland Athletic League as a junior, officially committed to the Cardinal on June 12. Family loses livelihood after teens steal $100,000 in equipment CHP determined that a 2018 Chevrolet Express van was heading westbound on San Juan Road towards Murphy Road around 5:18 a.m. At the same time, a 2010 Chrysler Town and County van was heading east on San Juan Road and it crossed the double yellow lines. The two vans crashed directly into each other. The driver of the Chrysler was declared dead at the scene by emergency medical responders. Ridership yesterday was reported to be 189,716, second only to the Golden State Warriors victory parade in June of last year.Ridership Tuesday was largely driven by a fan-organized "reverse boycott" to protest the Oakland Athletics' proposed move to Vegas at the Oakland Coliseum and a K-pop concert at the adjacent Oakland Arena.
